Projects

The following selection of projects reflect the diversity and breadth of my experiences during graduate school.

Capstone

I worked with EveryLibrary to build a framework for a grant for a program to train library leaders on power building and political and financial literacy. This program will be specifically geared towards libraries who struggle to receive adequate funding, particularly those in low-income areas and historically BIPOC communities, so that library leaders can confidently lobby for increased funding from both their municipal governments and outside funders. My project allows EveryLibrary to quickly and efficiently apply for a variety of grants to fund the project.

Group Project - Digital Libraries

Along with my classmates Ali Gunnels and Misha Coleman, I collaborated with Texas Digital Library (TDL) to improve understanding of digital library work to both the general public and LIS/MSIS students through an interview series format. We focused on exploring what tasks make up the day-to-day job of a digital librarian, as well as the larger challenges of working with digital collections. We specifically highlighted members of the BIPOC community and other marginalized communities who are currently working in the field of digital librarianship. We also created captions and transcripts, wrote metadata according to local standards,  and uploaded all materials into TDL's DSpace repository. We will be presenting our project at the Texas Conference for Digital Libraries in May 2022.

Class Project - Planning & Understand Exhibits

This exhibit explores how we use photographs to portray our identity. It draws parallels between historical and modern photographs, featuring original 19th and 20th century images alongside digital images from iSchool students. As a member of the Text Team, I researched, wrote, and edited text for exhibit panels and labels. We also designed all text panels and determined an appropriate layout for exhibit materials and object labels.

Individual Project - Library Instruction & Information Literacy

I created this LibGuide for undergraduate students in the School of Information at UT. The purpose was to demonstrate that academic integrity is not always black and white, and that we can use a critical information literacy lens in order to be more equitable in our scholarly work. Additionally, I worked with a partner, Katie Edwards, to create an instructional video and active learning activity for the undergraduates.
